Artist Diane Ross .....

Diane Ross

Diane Ross was named Artist of the Month by the Geneva Lake Art Association for December 2010.

Diane began painting in 1997 after she retired to Eagle River. After taking a class in composition and drawing in the 1980's, she worked in graphic design for several years. In her childhood years, her grade school art teacher sent her to the Art Institute of Chicago for art instructions. After raising three children and teaching art to pre-school children, she is able to acknowledge her artistic desires.

Ross's intense love of vivid color has taken her from realistic pen and ink drawings to colorful abstract. When she starts to paint and abstract, she lets the deep, rich color play on the paper. The flow of color determines what she sees in her paintings. She feels free and open to where the paintings lead her. Ross enjoys working in water color, acrylic, clay, making hand-made paper, portrait painting and her new interest is painting homes in watercolor.

Diane studied with Karlyn Holman, Mary Ann Beckwith, Roberta Carter Clark, Jane O'Brien, Diane Wlezien and Cheng Kee Chee.

Ross's work has been shown in the Wisconsin Regional Art Program, where she has been honored seven out of eight years. In 2005, she received the Julie Chang Artistic Excellence Award. She has also been awarded first-, second- and third-place honors from the Lakeland Art League People's Choice Show in Woodruff, Wisconsin, and she won first and second place in the Geneva Lake Art Association People's Choice Show.

In addition to being a member of the GLAA, Diane is a member of the Wisconsin Regional Art Association. Her work is in private collections in Wisconsin and Illinois and in the Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, Wisconsin.

Diane and her husband Bob now reside in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Her work can be viewed at the Geneva Lake Art Association Gallery in the North Point Mall, Aislinge Gallery in the Village Shops, and J. Marc Gallery, which are all located in Lake Geneva.
